Since 1845, Americans have voted on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November - Election Day. Through voting, U.S. citizens are given a voice in politics - casting their vote to decide who should make decisions on their behalf at the local, state, and federal levels.
In the 2024 election, 65.3% of U.S. citizens voted - and that was the third-highest turnout in 34 years (according to the Census Bureau). Many people neglect their voting rights, and while there are various reasons, many forgo because they feel their vote doesn’t matter.
Does your vote matter?
This Sunday we heard from Nate Mundy who is currently a West Carrollton City Council Member and has previously been a School Board Member, a three-time Election Day Ballot Candidate, and a Poll-Worker. He was also an employee of the Board of Elections for 2 ½ years where he witnessed close races, such as one candidate who won by only two additional votes. By reflecting on his experience in the political sphere, and with direction from God’s Word, Nate answered the question of whether our votes matter and explained not only WHY they matter but also WHY we as Christians should exercise this great privilege that God has blessed us with.
Nate shared 2 Samuel 10:12 ~ “Be strong, and let us fight bravely for our people and the cities of our God. The Lord will do what is good in his sight.”
Nate stated, “We all have a choice to fight for the values God has written in His Word and in our hearts. We must remember it’s not just for you, it’s for your neighbors, for the next generation, and for the unborn.”
Your vote affects laws, budgets, and policies that impact everyday living: your school’s funding and staff pay, school curriculum and testing requirements, school safety and use of technology; your city’s budget, policing, fire protection, EMS, disaster preparedness, cybercrime prevention; the parks and sidewalks you enjoy; your city’s zoning, restaurants, and apartments; your property maintenance standards, your workplace fire codes and building safety; traffic and pedestrian safety; gun regulations; sentencing rules, juvenile justice structures, and so much more.
Nate continued: “Pray for whoever wins the positions, that they would have God as their guide, and be God-filled leaders. And pray for the protection of the poll-workers and the protection of those who go to cast their votes at the polls.”
As Pastor David said, choosing not to vote does not put you outside the consequences of the election, so use your voice! The Polls are open from 6:30 a.m.–7:30 p.m. tomorrow! Go vote!
